CORAL ISLAND Exquisite hinged cuff bracelet in Faux Coral Ever since my 2011 Trunk Show I have received dozens of requests to repeat the elaborate cuff bracelet I made. I finally found a few of the same high end hinged cuffs and am pleased to offer 3 different designs at this 2012 Show The foundation for the bracelet as I mentioned is a sturdy, slightly oval shaped hinged cuff which stays very securely closed with pressure from the spring hinge on one side. The finish is a richly textured dark gunmetal grey. The oval shape stays in place without flipping on the wrist much better than a round cuff. To this exquisite blank "canvas" I added 4..count em..FOUR handsculpted and carved polymer clay Chows, nestled in an ISLAND PARADISE in the softly concave recess of the bracelet . The scene with 3 adult chows covers one entire side of the cuff, while a swath of stylized tropical leaves and an inquisitive chow puppy also in Faux Coral is featured on the back side The FAUX CORAL I create from polymer clay which was painstakingly layered, thinly sliced and layered again and again to bring out the rich orange/red tones and translucent quality of real branch coral!!! You can see the real coral in the background of many of the photos for comparison. After firing , the entire pendant was covered in black paint (always a "cringe" moment ) and baked on , followed by hours of sanding and buffing off the paint to reveal the exquisite details of the sculpting beneath. It looks for all the world like finely finished coral without the weight or high price tag of the real deal!! No one gets kicked off the island in this featured performance!!!! THE MAGIC IS IN THE HOLE - faux ivory donut Chow necklace There are no words to really describe how gorgeous this large statement necklace looks in person. It is not a shy piece by any means, yet is as classy as can be, combining both my Faux Ivory and Iridescent techniques , for a push and pull of texture vs. metallic. The large donut pendant I created entirely from Polymer clay in an almost Yin/Yang division between the warm "ivory" and cool" icy iridescent clay. The blues flash from turquoise to sea green and have areas of rich cobalt and indigo as well which are picked up by matching Swarovski crystals studding the "ivory" side of the donut. The Faux Ivory carving of chows in a garden was applied as a separate layer, much like a cameo design but far more elaborate. The two chows in the weeping willows and rock garden sit and meditate against the crystal blue "water". It is such a meditative design that makes one want to study the details over and over. The bail is a continuation of the pendant , suspending the beadwork which is a perfect frame for this wearable art. The beads include zebra wood, coconut shell, and the rare vintage lucite called "Ivorine" from the 1950s. Ivorine has faint bands of ivory and transparent which mimics the real deal. It has fooled a number of collectors over the years. More modern anodized aluminum rings, subtly pull the blue metallics up into the beadwork. The design may be larger ,but not heavy because of the wood and lucite bead choices. This is a very special piece…I'll say it again….this is a VERY special piece as I have first hand knowledge as to how much went into this beauty!!! SMILE! IVORY LOTUS EARRINGS One of the exciting things about working with polymer clay, is its ability to mimic all sorts of other materials including, metal, glass, and even bone and ivory. This set of earrings are exquisite. Not only for their elegance and simplicity but for their feather light character. I hand carved these little "ivory" chows (see photo #4) and applied each to a replica Chinese coin with a very special charm dangling underneath. The teeny vintage lucite lotus blossom bead came from a bracelet I recently found with my daughter Liz on an antiquing trip to the Oregon Coast. BRASS CAMEO NECKLACE This piece was so much fun to make I ended up doing 2 of them!!! The chow cameo design started with an impression I made into the clay from one of my handmade molds, the highlighted the surface with a rubbing of rich bronze. The cameo is then framed in black and a large vintage crystal is added to the bottom for lots of movement and a flash of glitz here and there. RHODA- Faux Rhodonite necklace One of the fascinating things about working with polymer clay, is its ability to mimic all sorts of other materials including, metal, glass, and semiprecious gemstone. This Faux Rhodonite (see photo 4) necklace was created by chopping, layering and blending transparent and metallic clays with a bit of a rose color to echo this magnificent stone. Even the striations and inclusions are pretty convincing! The best part is that the weight is next to nothing in comparison to a real stone carving. This elegant sitting chow called Rhoda, I hand carved before and after firing, gave a slight patina in the crevices to bring out the details, and polished to a matte sheen. She looks for all the world like an authentic Asian stone carving and in person, the copperish dust inside the transparent layers really catches the light PENDANT MEASURES 2 1/4" long Silver tone chain is fully adjustable to 24"

TURN TO STONE- Faux Rhodonite and real petrified wood necklace This is one of my Faux Rhodonite chow designs utilizing a gorgeous nugget of polished petrified wood in the suspension system. The Wee chow was hand sculpted from the last piece of my small clay slab I created to mimic the gemstone Rhodonite...see photo of raw stone above. I hinged and wire wrapped this adorable nugget of a pup to the petrified wood and added faux rhodonite raised areas to the surface for a bit of added texture.
